Our Day Together
7:45 – 9 am Arrival and Center Time
Children will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of areas in the classroom: Block Area, Art Area, Math, Science/Sensory Table, Dramatic Play, Library and Writing area. During this time, children will have the chance to interact with materials and each other.
9 am – 9-30 am Morning Meeting
Each morning, we will spend time in a group circle working on listening to and responding to each other. Our morning meeting will incorporate the following elements: greeting, morning message, sharing, and group activity. Here we will learn songs, rhymes, beginning literacy and mathematical skills and most importantly, build a sense of community.
9:30 – 10:10 am Music and Movement
Be it yoga, exploring musical instruments, guided movement, or dancing, children will explore moving their bodies in space.
10:10– 10:30 am Snack
Each morning, children will have a nutritious snack provided such as yogurt, fruit, cheese and crackers. Organic products when available.
10:30-11:30 Outside Play
Each day, we will get outside to explore the outdoors and exercise. We will walk to Murphy Playground or stay in our own backyard. The children will have the chance to work in the sand box, go on swings, the climber, ride tricycles, scooters or play games together.
11:30 – 12:30 Read Aloud and Project Time
Each day, there will be hands-on work directly connected with our overall theme. It may be an art project, a cooking activity, a math game or a science experiment.
12:30-1:10 Lunch
Each day, we will eat a nutritious lunch together family style. A menu will be posted on our website each month. Children will assist in setting the table with napkins and utensils and be involved with the cooking when appropriate.
1:10 – 2:10 Quiet and Rest Time
Rest is so important for children at this age. We will have an afternoon nap on mats and pillows/sheets kept in the classroom and washed regularly. Children will bring special blankets and or soft toys from home to help them get comfortable. After 30 minutes of rest, children who don't sleep will have quiet play in the classroom.
2:10- 3:30 Snack and Center Time
Children are gently woken up. Once awake, they may choose an area of the classroom to work in. Afternoon snack is served at that time. Some days, we will be eating a snack we have made during our Project Time.
3-3:30 First Dismissal
